MCAS Iwakuni is a mission-ready air station, capable of providing continuous base-operating support for tenant organizations and follow-on U.S. and allied forces during training, combat or contingency (HA/DR) operations throughout the Indo-Asia Pacific region.
VMFA 251 arrives at MCAS Iwakuni

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, stationed out of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, arrived here Sept. 13 as part of the Unit Deployment Program.

Lt. Col. Allen E. Szczepek Jr. commands the "Thunderbolts," which consists of approximately 240 Marines and 12 F/A-18C Hornet aircraft.

The “Thunderbolts” replace VMFA-232, the “Red Devils,” which returned to MCAS Miramar.
