This media advisory contains information regarding Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni's U.S.-Japan Friendship Day scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5, 2012. Please help the air station and local community by giving this information the widest dissemination.

Due to complications from construction and traffic, more so than at any Friendship Day in previous years it is imperative that everyone who is able to use public transportation or attend on foot or bicycle do so. Busses will transport visitors from the JR Iwakuni train station and water ferries will transport visitors from locations listed in the attachment.

Pedestrians - Main Gate 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (The Main Gate will screen pedestrians). At 2 p.m. the Main Gate will be for outbound pedestrian traffic only.
Bicycles – Bicyclists are encouraged to park at a temporary bicycle parking lot next to the Sanyo Main (JR Train) Line located roughly 200 meters from the Main Gate and access the base on foot. Or walk their bicycle through the Main Gate and park as directed after entry through the Main Gate.

The public access road will be closed the evening of May 3 through Friendship Day, regardless of whether it opens before that.

Identification, Security and Prohibited Items
To increase the security and safety of everyone, all adult visitors to the air station are asked to bring a form of identification. Failure to bring identification could result in delays entering due to security screening. Visitors who are not Japanese citizens are required to bring either alien registration card or passport and to fill a simple questionnaire prior to entry. All visitors to the air station will pass through a security screening checkpoint prior to entry. The following items are prohibited: Knives, model guns, fireworks, BBQ grills and any other items that may cause harm or a fire with the exception of cigarette lighters. Alcohol and pets are prohibited.
Please refrain from bringing oversized bags/containers. All bags are subject to search.  Oversized bags may slow down the screening process when coming aboard the base.
