Intramural flag football teams took to the field behind the Robert M. Casey Medical and Dental Clinic as teams Dental and Deizlz faced off on the gridiron Oct. 3, 2013. The Deizlz won the game with a score of 21-15.

“We had a good showing with our team,” said Jose A. Castillo, Deizlz co-captain. “We really came together and played like one unit. It wasn’t just a one-man effort, it was all of us together, pushing through for the victory. We had a solid offense and played a tight defense.”

The Dental team struggled in the beginning, relying more on an option offense as they tried to run the ball rather than pass.

“Our team is finally coming together,” said Robert Alcorn, Dental team captain. “Our team really started jelling toward the end. We have two new guys coming back from (temporary assigned duty) and leave who are pretty good and hopefully those reinforcements will put us over the top.”

The captains for both teams said they needed to practice more in order to become a better effective unit.

“We usually try to get a few practices in during the week, just to see where we are at,” said Castillo. “We stay motivated and try to stay positive for everyone because that’s what it’s about, staying positive and everyone having fun, boosting morale.”

Alcorn said this was the best game Dental played so far, but they need to try passing the ball more and focusing on tightening up their defense. On the other hand, the Deizlz were very comfortable with their defense, and played a well-balanced offense, strongly combining their running and passing game.

For those interested in watching an intramural football game, they are played Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. behind BHC.
