Kumano, Hiroshima Prefecture - A resident of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, participate in a calligraphy contest during a cultural adaption program trip to the annual Japanese Calligraphy Brush Festival in Kumano, Hiroshima Prefecture, Sept. 23, 2015. Held in the capital of brushes, this city is home to approximately 1,500 “fude-shi,” brush-making craftsman and twenty master artisans of fude. This ancient tradition of Kumano-fude making dates back to the 18th century and became a way of life for villagers seeking income.
