- Aircraft maintenance guidelines:
- Aircraft noise pollution is a serious consideration at MCAS Iwakuni because of the densely populated areas immediately adjacent to the airfield. Particularly sensitive to our Japanese Hosts are Tactical Jet engine turnups after normal working hours and during holidays. This is a problem that can be minimized with the full cooperation of all Commanding Officers, Maintenance personnel, and Aircrews from 2100(L) until 0630(L) only idle ground turns are authorized. (Excerpt from AOM, PARA 3004.4):
- IDLE POWER TURN-UPS ANYTIME EXCEPT DURING QUIET HOURS.
- LOW POWER IN-FRAME TURN-UPS NOT TO EXCEED 80 PERCENT MAY BE CONDUCTED ON FLIGHT LINES FROM 0630L-2100L.
- HIGH POWER TURN-UPS, IN-FRAME OR OUT-OF-FRAME, SHALL USE THE “HUSH HOUSE.”
- IF THE “HUSH HOUSE” IS OUT OF SERVICE, THE HIGH POWER REVETMENT ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE AIRFIELD WILL BE USED AS A LAST RESORT AND ONLY WITH EXPRESSED APPROVAL OF THE OPSO. THIS AREA MAY ONLY BE USED FROM 0630L TO 2100L MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, EXCEPT DURING NATIONAL HOLIDAYS AND 0630L-1200L ON SATURDAYS.
- TURBOPROP AND RECIPROCATING ENGINE AIRCRAFT MAY CONDUCT THEIR HIGH POWER TURN-UPS ON TAXIWAY “HOTEL” OR TAXIWAY “ALPHA” AND TAXIWAY “CHARLIE” FROM 0630L-2100L MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY EXCEPT DURING QUIET HOURS AND NATIONAL AND JAPANESE HOLIDAYS.
- EXCEPTIONS TO ANY OF THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES CONTAINED HEREIN MUST BE APPROVED BY THE OPSO.
