MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan - Yoko Seo, Japanese executive assistant for the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, gives a tour from the air traffic control tower to leaders of the Iwakuni City United Neighborhood Association during a Sound of Freedom Campaign event at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 18, 2018. “Events like these are very important because they provide the opportunity for local residents, government officials, and politicians to understand what MCAS Iwakuni does every day; supporting the alliance, providing national security of both countries, and protecting the way of life for the Japanese, and U.S. citizens,” said Seo. She also mentioned the goal for these events is to increase the attendees’ understanding about the defense of Japan, which some of them indirectly support. Seo’s job involves making sure the visitors understand the mission of the air station and why Marines are stationed in Japan. The Sound of Freedom Campaign helps local leaders have a better understanding of base operations and the importance of maintaining the readiness of Marine Aircraft Group 12, Carrier Air Wing 5 and Fleet Air Wing 31.
