MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan - A commemorative plaque, written in both Japanese and English, provides historical details about the final mission and crash of the B-24 Liberator aircraft “Lonesome Lady”. The plaque honors the sacrifice of a fallen American aircrew and Japanese ship crew who lost their lives in two different incidents in the same region and on the same day. Local residents came together to support the memorial in Yanai, Japan, paying tribute to American and Japanese lives lost during World War II. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Micah Taylor)
