MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- Residents aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni now have a stockpile of information available to them at the touch of a screen thanks to the Family Housing Office?s new Touch Information Presentation System 2000.
The two TIPS 2000s offer patrons answers to a wide variety of commonly asked questions without having to wait in line at the Family Housing Office or even going there.
The new additions, one located at the Housing Office and the other on the second floor of the Marine Corps Exchange, are the first of their kind and certainly the top of the line as far as state of the art information referral goes, according to Sue Kear, MCAS Iwakuni housing officer.
"Iwakuni and Fort Campbell, Kentucky, are the only military installations in the Department of Defense who have this technology right now," said Kear. "These will help people find the information they're looking for in a more convenient manner."
The kiosks contain information not only about housing, but items such as local maps and directions, events, dining and shopping are included as well as access to enlisted monitors and career information. Service members can even find out about other military installations they may be headed to, noted Kear.
"The machines are connected to the Internet so they update themselves automatically. People can have up to the minute information at any time," said Kear. "Family members can even look up job openings available to them wherever they are at or might be going and answers to questions about their health and welfare benefits."
Another TIPS 2000 feature is the "Tell Us About It" option, which will direct you to the Station's Interactive Customer Evaluation site. The kiosks are available for everyone and the information can be printed out for patrons to take with them.
"These can help everyone," said Kear. "People who are new to the area or have already been here for awhile can benefit from the information at any time of the day."
