Fitness within hands reach

29 Aug 2003 | Pfc. Giovanni Lobello Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan

The Marine Corps Community Services Semper Fit Health Promotions department has recently started a new program at IronWorks Gym to promote healthy lifestyles for Station residents.

Top gyms around the country are currently using an on-line fitness & nutrition program as another tool to help keep Americans in shape.

The Station has done its part by installing the IronWorks Gym Iwakuni On-line Workout and Nutrition program available at the Ironworks Gym and located on the internet at www.ironworksgymiwakuni.com.

"Station personnel can purchase an access card for the program at the front desk of the Ironworks Gym," said Billie Scott, Health Promotions director.

The Ironworks Gym On-line Workout and Nutrition program is a web-based program that designs personalized workout routines and nutrition plans to fit each person?s goal.

"Once a patron purchases an access card and signs in on the web site, they will answer a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and then proceed to a fitness and nutrition assessment. These assessments will help to customize both your nutritional menu and a workout routine to fit the goals you have in mind," said Scott. "The beauty of this program is that besides designing a personalized workout and nutrition plan for you, it also progresses your workout routine and designs a new menu for you on a daily basis," said Scott.

"The other great feature of this program is that once the workout program is designed, there is a video of each recommended exercise. There?s also a video library of 250 exercise videos users can access. The videos are very helpful because a demonstration of how to perform each exercise is shown. This way whether you have been to the gym or not you'll observe the safe and proper technique for each exercise," added Scott.

According to the web site, whether you want to lose weight and tone up, or perfect your golf swing, we have a plan just for you. Here?s just a small sample, strength & performance to targeted programs, bodybuilding to lose fat & tone, football-lineman to cheerleading, general athletic to soccer or volleyball. Our customizable workout plans take into account your present fitness level, goals, and lifestyle equipment used, desired workout schedule, and frequency.

Scott commented by saying the program also has approximately 4,000 different menus to vary what you eat daily.

The web site also stated "Our personalized nutrition plans take into account your lifestyle, goals, metabolism, taste in food, prep times, and meals desired per day. Also the precisely formulated daily menus inform you of total calories, as well as percent of carbs/fat/protein eaten. And that's not all! We provide ongoing motivation, education, and support each time you log on with daily articles on nutrition engaging message boards insightful diet tips and more.

Scott also added, "Patrons can purchase an access card for an annual charge of $24. This is a big discount compared to the $59.95 annual charge if bought on-line."

Once signed up Station personnel will be able to enjoy the benefits of having a personalized workout and nutrition plan designed and available on-line.

With the benefits this program offers, the Station has also had the privilege of becoming the first in the entire Armed Forces to offer this type of program.

"Headquarters Marine Corps is looking at Iwakuni as a test pilot to determine the benefits of this new program," said Scott.

Whether your goal is to lose body fat, gain muscle or to just get back in shape, the IronWorks Gym Iwakuni On-line Workout and Nutrition program may be just what you?re looking for.
