Too DeWitt to quit

28 Jul 2002 | Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan

Col. John DeWitt, Marine Aircraft Group 12 commanding officer, receives some friendly fire in the form of a popped champagne bottle from his wife, Barbara, outside of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 212 hangar after completing his final scheduled flight as a Marine Corps fighter pilot July 19. DeWitt turned over the reigns of MAG-12 to Col. Stephen Pomeroy during a change of command ceremony at Hangar 1510 July 24, closing out an illustrious 35-year military career which included two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
