The Fil-Am intramural basketball team came out victorious over the IYAOYAS 47-36 during a 2010 Intramural Basketball game at IronWorks gym May 19.

The game began with fierce intensity. As soon as the referee tossed the ball into the air, players from opposite teams leaped up in an attempt to tap it to a teammate.

Fil-Am had no trouble putting the ball through the net as they racked up points.

Tommy R. Bryan II, player for the Fil-Am team, brought his game full-force against the IYAOYAS and scored a total of 20 points throughout the game.

The IYAOYAS still managed to put up a good fight against the Fil-Am’s strong defense as the two teams stayed neck and neck throughout the first half.

During the first half, Tech. Sgt. Jordan Kroell, team coach and player for the Fil-Am team, was fouled and managed to sink a free throw to keep the team in the game.

The rest of the Fil-Am team kept up the intensity and finished the first half with a total of 17 points.

“The first half, when we played 20 minutes, we tried to give it all we had,” said Drevonn Fluellen, player for the Fil-Am team. “We hit a couple of threes, made a couple of two pointers and worked as a team.”

At the start of the second half, the IYAOYAS led the game by just four points.

Fil-Am stepped up their game and shot after shot, they scored from just inside the arc, never letting up until the end.

Fluellen was able to score two points during the first quarter but stepped up his game when he managed to sink a three-pointer from outside the arc with hardly any man on the defense to cover him.

“In the second quarter, I was just feeling it,” said Fluellen. “I received the ball and just fired up a three pointer.”

“It was a pretty close game up until the end,” said Bryan.

In the end, the team finished strong.

Fil-Am was able to keep their defense tight and Bryan was quick to catch the rebound of any shot that was put up.

“All we need to do to win is work as a team,” said Fluellen. “We have a good group.”

Fil-Am is slated to go up against the Goon Squad at IronWorks gym June 1.
