Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan -- Service members, friends and families took part in a Superhero Fun Run on the Seawall at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 31, 2015.
The 1.5K run allowed station residents to celebrate the Halloween festivities while being physically active.
“Kids love superheroes and as Semper Fit we try to promote fitness and health and what better way to do that than have a super hero fun run with the kids,” said Barbara Roman, Fitness coordinator with Health Promotions.
Costumes varied from Spiderman, Superman, Batman and many others. Children raced to see whose hero was the fastest.
For one family, this was a great event to have fun while enhancing the bond within the community.
“I think it was great for all the families to come out in costumes and the kids loved it,” said Gunnery Sgt. Todd Homes, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron. “This shows them there are more things to do on Halloween than just getting candy.”
Snacks and beverages waited at the finish line as participants crossed. Once bellies were filled, families had the opportunity to take their photos with an outline of a comic-style city backdrop.
Roman said this event was bigger than last year’s and with more participation events like this can become even bigger.
