MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- On-base individual and location contact tracing has concluded. MCAS Iwakuni is presently working in coordination with the local health authorities in support of contact tracing individuals and locations off base that may have had exposure to COVID-19 positive individuals aboard the air station. The individuals in question, all part of the same household, boarded a commercial flight on July 13 from Haneda Airport to Kintaikyo Airport and remain in quarantine aboard the air station. The risk of exposure to new contacts is low.
Preserving the health and safety of the local community, which we share with our Japanese neighbors, is of paramount importance and mitigating the spread of COVID-19 is the top priority for the air station. At this time, an investigation is ongoing into this isolated incident.
