MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- Within the last 24 hours, two (2) individuals at MCAS Iwakuni have tested positive for COVID-19.
These individuals were not in a restriction of movement status. Upon testing positive, MCAS Iwakuni immediately placed these individual into a restriction of movement status.
Upon detection of any positive case, MCAS Iwakuni conducts aggressive contact tracing and will contact, test, and appropriately quarantine all close contacts. Testing of close contacts may result in the identification of additional positive cases.
The individuals who tested positive have had no association with the U.S. Olympic Team. MCAS Iwakuni has a proven track record of preventing the spread of COVID on the installation, and we remain confident in our prevention measures. The high rate of vaccinated individuals on the installation has significantly reduced the risk of spreading COVID and has allowed the air station to continue operating while safeguarding our personnel and local community.
On-base medical authorities continue to work closely with off-base health authorities concerning relevant contact trace findings.
All individuals who receive positive tests results will remain in isolation status until classified as recovered in accordance with Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery guidance.
