MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- MCAS Iwakuni welcomed the JS Izumo and its crew in support of regional security and stability operations on 30 September, 2021.
As the only Marine Corps installation with a collocated harbor and airfield, MCAS Iwakuni has a long history of usage to benefit the U.S.-Japan alliance, from the offload of Japan Self-Defense Force aircraft to the delivery of humanitarian aid and disaster assistance in Japan’s times of need.
Col. Lance Lewis, commanding officer of MCAS Iwakuni, welcomed Capt. Kawauchi Kenji, commanding officer of Izumo, and Rear Adm. Komuta Shukaku, Commander Escort Flotilla One, upon their arrival in Iwakuni.
