The 44th annual JMSDF/MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day, which is scheduled to be on Saturday, Apr. 15, is almost a week ahead. This release provides updated information of more performers and ground static displays are confirmed before the open house celebration. The list of performers and static displays may be subject to change due to operational requirements.

Flight Displays:
Japan Air Self-Defense Force Blue Impulse - MCAS Iwakuni is excited to announce the participation of Blue Impulse, JASDF’s special aerobatic demonstration team, for Friendship Day 2023. Through their astonishing aerobatics and precision-flying demonstrations, Blue Impulse draws great excitement from wonder-filled spectators and has won high praise from both inside and outside of Japan.

CVW-5 Flyover and Break – U.S. Carrier Air Wing FIVE will demonstrate their flying capabilities during Friendship Day. Attached to the USS Ronald Reagan while deployed, CVW-5 made MCAS Iwakuni their home base for their fixed wing aircraft between 2017 and 2018, joining MAG-12 and FAW-31 as the third major tenant unit of the air station.

Ground Events and Static Displays:
Subject to change, we currently have numerous U.S. and Japanese aircraft static displays. The planned displays include, but are not limited to, the following: F-35B, P-8, EA-18G, F/A-18E/F, E-2, C-2, HH-60, KC-130J, UC-12W, KC-135, A-10, MV-22 from U.S. military inventories. From Japan Self-Defense Force aircraft static displays will include the following: US-2, P-3, U-36A, MCH-101, F-2, F-15, T-7, TC-90, SH-60K, AH-1S, C-2, and more. In addition the Marine’s F-35B, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s F-35A will also be in attendance as a static display.
