MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan -- Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 12 used a KC-130J Hercules aircraft to assist the U.S. Coast Guard rescuing two mariners stranded 60 nautical miles northwest of Chuuk Island near Guam at 2:00 p.m. June 6, 2012.
The Marines spotted a skiff containing the two mariners, aged 24 and 32, dropped a life raft near them containing survival equipment, and radioed their location to the Coast Guard. The men were picked up approximately 2.5 hours later by a civilian bulk carrier.
