Unaccompanied Housing

Unaccompanied Housing, Military Housing Division at Facilities, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan

MCAS Iwakuni strives to create an inclusive environment that cultivates the development and training of Marines and Sailors.  The Marine Corps recognizes that the management of Unaccompanied Housing (UH) facilities is critical to a service member’s development process. UH is a personal residence and the Marine Corps strives to provide a modern, functional, well maintained and comfortable home, as well as promote pride, professionalism and personal dignity.

Residing in UH barracks is mandatory for unaccompanied service members in the ranks of E-1 to E-5. Each service member in UH is provided with furnishings, bed linens and supplies required for comfortable living. Permanent party UH barracks consists of twenty one multi-level buildings equipped with laundry rooms and dayrooms on each floor, and cooking facilities. Several of the newer buildings have kitchens built into the common areas.  If your sponsor is able to tell you what building you will be residing at, click the link Barracks Floor Space on FEATURED DOCUMENTS to see the square footage of the room.

Restrictions:

  • All barracks are non-smoking areas

  • Pets are not allowed

  • Weight entitlements for furnishings annotated on individual PCS orders. Unaccompanied service members are allowed 600lbs in accordance with JTR Weight Allowance.  Please verify with your losing transportation office for the latest requirements as they may change.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Unaccompanied Housing quarters are equipped with basic furnishings. Members are encouraged to store personal furnishing CONUS and bring only minimal HHG to MCAS Iwakuni. Facilities UH is unable to accommodate the storage of excess furnishings at this time. Residents must rent commercial storage space for extensive storage needs. On-site storage is limited and intended only for minimal items such as luggage.

Current Unaccompanied Housing accommodations for Permanent Party personnel include:

  • Officers O1 and above and Chief Warrant Officers W1 and above: Private room with living room, bedroom, kitchen, and private bath.

  • SNCO E6-E9: Private room with kitchen and private bath.

As soon as you have orders to Iwakuni, contact your gaining command to ensure they are tracking your arrival as well. This is very important, especially because many who just finished their respective school house do not always appear on units’ inbound roster.

Do not be afraid to contact your unit. They are eager to assist you and want to ensure they are tracking your arrival. Your unit’s phone number can be accessed at the phone directory.

While contacting your unit, also begin working on the Unaccompanied Checklist.

To request Unaccompanied Housing quarters, please provide a copy of your orders, your DODID number, and your estimated arrival/departure dates. There are several ways you may submit this information:

Ask your sponsor to bring it into our office in building 1503; or

Bring it to our office in building 1503 once you arrive. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m, - 4:30 p.m.

The UH Management Office is staffed with professionals that can assist with all of your housing needs. Staff personnel consist of both civilian employees and service various military members. The assigned military are Barracks Managers (BM). These members are highly motivated personnel dedicated to ensuring that residents receive quality service. BMs will provide guidance and advice on UH life as well as mentor you on succeeding in the Marine Corps.

As soon as you are notified of your assignment contact your gaining unit and request to be assigned a sponsor. Your sponsor will be another military member assigned to your unit and will assist with your move. The sponsor or gaining unit must then contact the UH Management Office to notify them of your impending arrival date and work to secure a barracks room for you. We highly encourage you keep close contact with your sponsor and confirm information you may need to determine what Household Goods you may need.

In most cases, you will be assigned a room in an area of the barracks set aside for the personnel who work in your unit. This is to promote camaraderie among unit members. If a room is not available near other members of your unit, you may be assigned a temporary room until one with your unit becomes available.

Prior to travel, arrange to meet your sponsor or someone from your unit upon arrival at the gaining installation.  If you arrive on a business day during normal duty hours, have your sponsor escort you to the UH Management Office. Your UH Manager will take you through the process of checking you into your room and performing a move-in inspection and inventory of the allotted furnishings and supplies.  If you arrive on the weekend or after normal duty hours, have your sponsor make arrangements to pick up your room key from the UH Management Office. If you obtain your room key outside of normal duty hours, it is still mandatory to report to the UH Management Office the next duty day for in-processing.

You will be expected to keep your room and any shared living space clean and tidy. Cleaning supplies and equipment can be provided to you free of charge. You will also be accountable for your room and the furnishings provided. Residents may be held liable for any damages beyond normal fair wear and tear. See your UH Management Office representative if you have any questions about your resident responsibilities.

The Installation Commander establishes a base-wide UH inspection program focused on health and safety. Squadron Commanders and unit First Sergeants implement the inspection program and visit rooms to ensure that all residents from their squadron comply with installation standards.
